How to Introduce Solid Foods to Your Baby

06 May 2023

Wait until your baby is ready: It's important to wait until your baby is at least 4-6 months old before introducing solid foods. Signs that your baby is ready for solids include good head control, ability to sit up with support, and showing interest in food.

Start with single ingredient purees: When you start introducing solid foods to your baby, it's best to begin with single ingredient purees such as mashed bananas, sweet potatoes, or avocado. This will help you identify any food allergies or intolerances.

Gradually introduce new foods: Once your baby is eating a variety of single ingredient purees, you can start to introduce new foods. Introduce one new food at a time and wait a few days before introducing another new food. This will help you identify any food allergies or intolerances.

Offer a variety of foods: Offer your baby a variety of foods including fruits, vegetables, and protein sources such as meat or beans. This will help ensure that your baby is getting all the necessary nutrients.

Don't force your baby to eat: Your baby may not be interested in certain foods or may not be ready to eat solids yet. Don't force your baby to eat, and be patient as they adjust to this new way of eating.

Use appropriate utensils: Use a soft-tipped spoon to feed your baby. Don't give your baby any foods that are hard, sticky, or small enough to choke on.

Pay attention to your baby's cues: Your baby will let you know when they are full or don't like a certain food. Pay attention to their cues and don't force them to eat more than they want.
